A follow up to 2024’s ‘Feeling & Devotion,’ ‘Grace & Sorrow’ is the fifth studio album from Northern Michigan singer-songwriter Jack M. Senff and his band, The Heartland Mission as they continue their return to center, a sonically acoustic exploration of 90s & early-00’s adult alternative, old church music, bluegrass, and secular spiritualism. Recorded almost entirely live with no headphones or listen backs, ‘Grace & Sorrow’ was tracked in the loft space of a family cottage on Mullet Lake outside Cheboygan, Michigan in September 2025.
Counting nine new, original Jack M. Senff compositions & a contribution from songwriter / artist Em Randall (“Good Love”), the album was produced and performed by Senff, Randall, Brian Morgante, Austin Stawowcyzk, Schyler Binkley, John Richard Paul, Trevor Reed, and Kyle Wayne Luck, the latter of whom engineered & mixed, with mastering by Phillip Shaw Bova. The album tackles themes of emergent loss, radical acceptance, and continued generational trauma as it coalesces with the beauty & banality of everyday life.
